Two faces of life- the GOOD and the BAD!

Dear Son.

The Sun rises in the east is your first lesson, the sun sets in the west is your second lesson, I am your mother is your third lesson and my husband is your father is your fourth lesson, then comes your sixth and then the seventh and then so on and so forth! You have just turned one and you have already started getting lessons at home, the lessons on standing on your own feet, lessons on walking your way to me, lessons on talking, a few more lessons on the do s and don't s.....

When the first ray of sun falls on my face in the morning and when I open my eyes the first glimpse I get to see is your face and I thank God everyday for such a wonderful gift of my life- Oh dear, look at you, you are such a sweet heart, so innocent, wanting to be cuddled, you are sleeping tight holding me in your tiny arms just like the sun in the morning trying to hold and cover the sky!     

As I got up today morning thinking of the upcoming Diwali, the first thing that I thought off is I must make use of this wonderful gift and thank God in the true sense for having chosen me for being the mother of such a wonderful baby. Gifts are always preserved and used for the best purpose and not let it go a waste by misusing or neglecting it! Diwali is such an auspicious day and I thought what else would be a better gift for my son from me on his second Diwali than giving him his first lesson on Samskara! I know you will not be able to understand whatever I am going to tell you but its never too early or too late to start doing GOOD things!

Humans are conditioned from their birth that 

being GOOD is not BAD and being BAD is not GOOD!

As soon as a baby is born, a mother is born too! No woman is thought the essence of motherhood as every woman is born with the instincts of being a mother! MOTHER who is said to be the first teacher or the Guru gives no literacy to her baby but teaches something that is far more important than that for a healthy life, the SAMSKARA!  Let me explain what is SAMSKARA to you first. SAMSKARA are the impressions stored in the mind that form the basis of our beliefs, attitudes and personality or the habitual reaction formed by one's past. Son, as you have just started walking on your own feet, I want you to walk your way of life with dignity by choosing the paths of values to your success. I may or may not accompany you through out your life but the SAMSKARA will always be their for your guidance. 

Every mother wants to be a GOOD mother and tries to give GOOD values to her young one hoping to make her baby's life a GOOD and worthy life. She believes in what she is teaching her baby and she believes that she is teaching GOOD! Mother here I am speaking about is not just confined to humans alone, a mother is a mother- be it a Tiger, a Deer, an insect or a Bird, a Demon or a God! Every single species has a set of deeds defined to carry out during their life time. 

For example, the mother tiger teaches her cubs to hunt to get there food because she believes it is GOOD for her cubs to do that without which they will not survive. But this GOOD lesson becomes BAD for the victim, but tigers are born to do what they do! A mother initiates and teaches her young one to carry out these tasks according to her belief and which she thinks is GOOD for her baby to do. What is GOOD is in her belief, the GOOD is different from species to species and from individual to individual in the same species. 

Son, the GOOD and the BAD are the two faces of life, as you begin your journey of life, you will realize how BAD becomes an integral part of your life and how the SAMSKARA will help you fight the BAD.

The story am going to tell you in this letter forms the basis for why Diwali is celebrated. Diwali is the day of celebration because it is believed  that  on that day Lord Rama returned to his kingdom Ayodhya after conquering Lanka.  Kaikeyi , step mother of Rama lost her soul to greed and wanted her son Bharata  to assume the throne of Ayodhya. Dashrath, father of Rama and Bharata was bound by the promise given to Kaikeyi and hence asked Lord Rama to go to the wild forests for fourteen long years. In the forest Ravana, the king of Lanka, abducted Rama's queen Seeta. With the help of Lord Hanumana Rama found Seeta in the kingdom of Ravana at Lanka. Lord  Rama prepared a large army of monkeys and bears and invaded Lanka. Ravana was defeated. Vibhishan the brother of Ravana had joined Lord Rama in the battle. After defeating Ravana, Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya, his kingdom after fourteen long years. And this day is celebrated till date as Diwali, an auspicious day of victory of GOOD over BAD and the return of Lord Rama to his kingdom.

Son,  the basis of SAMSKARA is understanding the seven sins:

1. PRIDE.
2. COVETOUSNESS -- greed.
3. LUST.
4. ANGER.
5. GLUTTONY.
6. ENVY.
7. SLOTH.

For every individual, the word GOOD brings in different definitions, and what is GOOD for one may be BAD for the other. But, son, the GOOD brings in the true meaning when you successfully understand these seven deadly sins! Remember, this letter is in the interest of you though you may not be able to understand it now as a innocent toddler, but this is my gift for you on this Diwali.  And my last line in this letter for you son is that, as you grow wise, discover what you are born for and do what you are supposed to, but always remember GOOD wins over BAD!
