How to Outsource Writing for Your Blog

Having great, consistent blog posts are one of the ways that you are going to be able to attract and keep visitors coming to your site. Of course, if you are running a small business, or if you are a solo entrepreneur, finding the time and motivation to keep up with daily posts is going to be difficult. That’s understandable, and that’s why many people are starting to look for ways that they will be able to outsource their blogging. This way, they are still able to have posts on their blog on a consistent basis, but they don’t have to do it on their own.

Hiring bloggers

How to Choose the Right Writers?

By hiring writing services of one or more outside writers who are creating blog posts for you, it becomes much easier to deal with all of the other aspects of your business. They are going to be able to take care of the daily or weekly posts for you. However, you should make sure that you know what it is that you are buying from the writers. How much are you going to have to pay per post, and how long are the posts that they are offering at various prices?

How do you know if you are working with high quality writers? Well, you have to ask for some published samples of their work so you can get an idea of the style that they are able to offer. You also want to see what areas they are able to write about with some authority. You do not have to expect the writer to know as much about your topics as you do. However, you do want to make sure that the writer is going to be willing to learn.

Look at the Posts

When you are first working with a freelancer or company, you are not going to want to give them unfettered access to your site. Even though the writer might have familiarity with WordPress or whatever platform you are using, you still need to look at their posts before they go up. You have to make sure that the quality is high enough to be on your site in regards to the spelling, grammar, and content. You also want to make sure that they aren’t saying anything in the post that could offend some of your readers.

Of course, after you’ve been working with the writers for a few months and you know their level of quality, and you trust them, you may want to give them posting permissions on your site. You should still check the quality of the posts once they are up and on the site if they are posting on their own.

Things to Keep in Mind

Mistakes happen when writing blog posts, whether they are spelling errors, the tone of the piece, or a problem with the subject. Give the writers the benefit of the doubt and explain to them what the issue was. Most of the time, they are going to be able to correct the issue on future posts, so you will not have to worry.

Another Option: Guest Blogging

You may not need to hire out to freelancers all of the time though. You can always look for people who are willing to guest post on your blog in exchange for links. You can come up with a topic together and then the guest can write the blog, which you approve and post. This has another added benefit. You are going to be getting more exposure for your site since that guest poster is likely to promote the post elsewhere, such as on his or her own site and social networks.

Five Movies that Inspire Freelance Writers

Sometimes entertainment is not only meant to entertain, but to inspire. You now what kind I mean, the ones that upon watching you get up out of your seat, feeling light, yet powerful like you could conquer the world. More specifically, there are movies geared towards fostering creativity; for example, for the writer.

I have chosen five movies that I feel inspire freelance writers to create their own work, just from reaching into their own unique imaginations. I have organized this list in the order the movies were released, because I could not choose a “best” out of the five. You will need to make that decision for yourself!

Movies for writers

1. Dead Poet’s Society (1989)

This movie stars Robin Williams as an English teacher at a conservative private boy’s school in Vermont. Through his unique teaching methods, Williams shows his students to love poetry, and also inspires them to “seize the day.” The boys are impacted by their teacher’s devotion, causing them to carry down his legacy to others.

2. Finding Forrester (2000)

This unique movie tells the story of a young black basketball player who is also an aspiring writer. This young man wins a scholarship to a prestigious prep school in Manhattan where he meets an older white man who is a novelist. The two characters form an unlikely friendship and not only help each other with their writing, but with their own lives. This story shows how the love of writing can bring two people together to only strengthen their passion for the written word.

3. Wonder Boys (2000)

This comic drama chronicles a college professor (Michael Douglas), who has a bad case of writer’s block. Several of his own life stressors aren’t helping his creative juices flow either. This is a scenario that every writer can understand, but watching this film will not only leave you laughing, but will cure just about any kind of writer’s block.

4. Stranger Than Fiction (2006)

Will Ferrell plays in this comic drama and finds his life interrupted by a strange voice that narrates the events in his life. He doesn’t know what to do so he meets with a Literature professor who suspects that Ferrell might be a character in a novel being written at that every time. That is, in fact exactly what is happening to him! This is a funny, enlightening movie that will inspire all writers to think outside of the box when they are creating their stories.

5. The Freedom Writers (2007)

Hillary Swank plays a high school English teacher who inspires her class of at-risk students to write their stories. She also teaches them to how to accept and love each other as they are. By the end of the movie, many of them have healed from emotional pain through the tool of writing. The result from these students proves positive, validating the power of writing. This movie is based on a true story, which makes it even more inspiring.

All five of these movies, even with their differences, are geared towards inspiring freelance writers. I would encourage you to check them all out if you haven’t already. You won’t be disappointed, and you will leave feeling nothing short of creative!

A good Content Writer never mixes Web Content Writing and Blogging

It has been observed that many writers find it difficult to distinguish between blog writing and web content writing. There are a few writers who select the same tone for both kinds of writing. This is actually not the right way to do the “business”. Blogging and web content writing are two different ways of expressions and this is the reason why a good writer never mixes them, ever.
Differences between Web content and blogging
Before mentioning the differences between these two, let’s first understand what they actually are:

  1. Web Content Writing

Web content writing is carried out for websites. In short, the information and write-up that is available on websites is known as web content (web content writing). Web content writing includes a thorough research of keyword placement in the content. This kind of writing is sales oriented and professional. On websites content writing mostly remains same and does not change more often. To make it more clear, web content includes content for pages like about us, home page, careers, contact us, services, FAQs etc.
  2. Blogging

Blogging can simply be defined as fun. Blogging is a way of communicating with people. Its tone is informal and expressive. A good writer always tries to focus to the needs of different readers. There are thousands of readers who visit multiple blogs and share their expressions, aggressions and experiences. And a blogger always responds to them, hoping that he never loses traffic. Blogs are usually created to either divert the web-traffic towards the websites (in case of business blogs) or to get noticed as a writer / blogger (personal blogging).

Blogging is Informal unlike Web Content Writing

An experienced writer always knows that unlike web content, blogging is informal. One can use jokes, real life incidents and experiences on blogs but never on websites. This is the reason why web content is about seriousness, vision, mission, theories and pitching the sales. On the contrary, blogging is all about interacting with readers who can be customers or just readers. Blogging has a personal touch whereas web content revolves around professionalism.

Is Blogging Easier Or Web Content Writing?

People have different approaches; some people think that blogging is easier because it’s about expressing natural things. On the other hand, there are also many writers for whom writing web-content is easier because of the set parameters and more specifically they prefer to write serious and “to the point content”. Which out of the two is easier is totally a writer’s personal inclination and expertise.

For Blogging a Writer can get a bit Clumsy

It has been observed that bloggers use easy language and at times they use some words which can be clumsier, for which they also receive some comments (better say corrective statements) from their readers. In web content writing, one can never think about going off the track because of the fact that it is serious kind of writing and different companies and clients are targeted through the website.

Web Content Writing Is Sales Oriented Whereas Blogging is A Means to Communicate with Readers

It is a well-known fact that web content is targeted towards increasing the sales and customer base whereas, blogging is a way to communicate with the readers (these readers can be direct clients, customers or simple readers). A writer should know that web content writing involves serious words but in case of blogging he may use a tone that is friendly, interesting and informal.

How to find blogging jobs as freelance writers or freelance bloggers?

As freelancers, we constantly need to keep hunting for jobs and projects to keep ourselves busy with constant flow of work. This is part and partial of all the freelancing jobs be it freelance designing or freelance writing.

Today in this post I would like to share a couple of great and effective ways for finding blogging jobs as freelance writers.
Tips to find writing jobs

1) Research and hunt together-

Freelance writers ought to do some research for every single article they write and I am sure even you do the same. It is likely that you Google your research query and get all the information you want to complete your insightful article. The sights that show up on first or even the second page of search results are the ones that are reliable for information, have great content and also high Page Rank. To be precise they are quality sites.

While you finish off reading and jotting the essential points to relate your article, try to look for jobs on those sites as well. Closely try to locate the pages with titles like Contribute, Write for us, Hiring, Jobs, Careers, Guest post, etc. You can find these typically at the bottom of the site, in the footer, static pages or even categories or below/above the header. Also, some sites highlight these as ads in the side bar.

Most of the sites with such titles only offer a couple of links back to your site and no fee is paid for your guest posts. However, there are also few of them who are willing to pay for writing guest posts (I am trying to come up with an exhaustive list of blogs which pay for guest blogging, you can expect the information anytime in the next week, keep watching this blog). Some are trying to find quality writers to hire as regular content providers and some pay per article/guest post.

You can apply right away before the available positions get exhausted or you can save or bookmark them and consider to write pay per post guest articles in your leisure to fill the gap of your irregular work flow.

2) Finding blogging jobs through search engines-

Many new sites or blogs which dream of making it big in the blogosphere would have a dedicated page "write for us" or "Guest post" or similar. While most of them are aired to attract guest bloggers to post articles for free with a byline and a couple of links back to their blogs or social media profiles, there are few others who pay you right for substantial articles.

Effective use of search engines with target search terms can find you freelance writing jobs more easily than you think. Here is the list of search terms you can try to find your well paid writing jobs:

  • Write for us (combine any niches you are interested in like travel, food, leisure, lifestyle, sports, etc). Example: Health write for us
  • Contribute (include niche). Example: Contribute Fashion
  • Hiring writers... Niche
  • Guest post... Niche
  • Guest posting policy... Niche
  • Looking for writers... Niche
  • Writing jobs .... Niche
  • Blogger jobs write for us...... And more
If you are comfortable writing in any niche and not looking for particular niche blogging jobs then you can exclude the niches in your search terms.

These are my ways of hunting for jobs. This keeps me away from wasting time biding for peanuts and also am spared from sharing my earnings with the content mills as commission for finding me gigs. I always like to deal with the site owner directly, negotiate and stand a chance for myself to get paid what I am worth while.

Freelance writing is no longer what it used to be once. With the revolution in the internet this profession is more than just finding jobs and writing to meet the deadlines. Freelance writing is now associated with building brand as a writer, marketing as a writer, book keeping and management, accounting, social media management, public relation officer, and even more. Interviewing As A Freelancer and Dressing The Role

This is a guest post by Lora.

Interviewing can be one of the most exhilarating or difficult experiences in life. Someone interviewing has so many questions to prepare for from work experience to picking the perfect outfit and what to wear. Below are a few quick tips for dressing the role and getting the part you desire.

Tip 1: First Impressions Linger
While you’re probably familiar with the following expressions, “first come, first serve” and “first impressions make it or break it”, you probably don’t realize how much truth stands behind these sayings. As a freelancer, you’re used to attending meetings on a regular basis in everyday casual business attire so do NOT treat interviews as such. Fashion ranges from all sorts of body types so if you’re looking for plus size women’s clothing, opt for inexpensive yet head tunics to pair with pants, for example. People will make a decision about you within the first three to seven seconds of meeting so make sure you’re putting your best foot forward. Stand up straight to display confidence, keep answers sharp and short with very minimal mumbling and most importantly, maintain comfortable eye contact and never give any indication you’re not listening or uninterested.

Tip 2: Let’s Dress UP!
After reading this article, you have an assignment. Head over to your closet and take a good look at what you own. What do you see? Evaluate pieces that you can potentially place together like slacks and a sharp shirt or a nice pencil skirt and a ruffle top. All too often women feel they need to shop in order to find the right outfit and frankly, what you have at home will most likely work to your advantage. If you’re struggling to find pieces to mix and match, flip through photo albums or bring over a friend of two to evaluate what you can wear. Once an outfit is determined, have it dry cleaned or iron well. The last thing you need is having someone assume you’re a sloppy freelancer. After all, a sloppy wardrobe might often reflect onto your work as a freelancer.

Tip 3: Leave The Interviewer Mentally Happy
Stepping back to Tip 2, visual esthetic plays a highly important role when interviewing, especially as a freelancer. Often time employers might judge your freelancing qualities and work solely from your appearance to how you speak, etc. Arrive with a smile and a great deal of confidence (and perhaps a new haircut if you’re looking a bit unkempt). Granted, all companies are different, some are more flexible than others so until you have a better idea of the company, reflect the seriousness of your work through your personality and appearance.

Tip 4: Be Yourself and Be Direct
We’ve heard this from the day we were born so it’s no surprise you’re going to hear it again. Be genuine, be real and most of all, be FUN! Make sure to laugh when appropriate! Interviews aren’t supposed to be daunting, tragic and scary.  The best advice I have is to interview the company you’re freelancing for just as professionally and serious as they are you. You’re not just interviewing for a freelance role, you’re interesting for your own self-interests such as networking, insurance and growth opportunities. If there are a few points about the role you’re not comfortable with make sure to address it directly by asking for more details or asking for a few sample explanations.
Tip 5: Something To Remember
Walking into an interview without researching the company or having any background knowledge is embarrassing and quite simply not professional. Make sure to ask interesting and difficult questions as well to show that you’re fully engaged with the company and understand what their values are and what’s sought after. Leave the person interviewing you with a lingering and impressive memory from your interview. Leaving something small from a well-put together folder with your resume, etc., a card, a thoughtful smile and a firm handshake, something to really set you off from the rest is a unique way to end the interview.

Research Paper Writing as Freelance writing career

As a freelance writer myself, I have been asking a question to myself- Is there an opportunity for freelance writer to take up projects on research papers? Sonia Jackson, is on right time on queensquill.com with her guestpost which answers this.

A research paper is basically a detailed discussion on a certain topic. Now this could be on absolutely any topic. Just try to make sure you stick to the main point without losing concentration. Writing a research paper is not a big deal. There are just a few pointers to remember in order to compose an excellent research paper.

Following are a few tips to remember:
  • Decide the topic carefully; it should cover the specific aspect that you have done research on. An irrelevant topic would get you nowhere and would bring your grade down.
  • The next step is obviously the composition of the research. Since this is a research paper, hence, there has to be extra detailing proper in depth examination and exploration of the topic from every aspect. Make sure you study a lot by going through books at renowned libraries, the internet and getting views from professors.
  • Furthermore, get down organizing your material. Determine a lay out or a format and follow it. It would help you construct an appealing research paper. Look at a few research papers already present for you to examine. Ask your professor who can better guide you according to your present circumstances and level of education your stand on.

Now that you know about research papers, let us turn to the most promising online job in the upcoming decade. “Writing”! Yes, may it be blogs, articles, essays, etc. everyone knows that today words can get you to a whole new level. You might be working professionally in an office or may be doing assignments for others. Notice your areas of strengths and weaknesses and go for topics of which you are aware of for it saves time as well as that extra hard work.
Freelancer website for getting a research paper

You can easily get research papers here up on freelancer. These are specially picked up by students or the younger generation in general. They have an idea of the current format of thesis papers. You need a bit of technical help at the beginning but then you get the hang of it. All instructions given will be clear.

You should work according to the requirement of your clients. This little break from freelancer will help you get into the professional world of writing and this little experience will help understand how this works. The approval of clients will bring more attention to you. If there are any queries then you can easily find many online advice companies related to online writing jobs. You may visit them for more information regarding writing jobs or if you are facing a “writer’s block”.
How to become a good freelance writer?
There are a few qualities which you should have to become a good freelancer writers, being punctual, using simple English but bring compatible to use heavy vocabulary and lastly selfless.

Make sure you plan a day before hand on which you would sit down and cover the complete bulk of writing assignments and make sure you have no other engagements. List your favorites last and the hard one’s first so that you have more time for research. Keep yourself busy by handling multiple projects at one time.
You are not required to use words the general public is unaware of but use suitable above average English when writing for others to give a good impression. Lastly, running after money will get you nowhere.  Yes earning is important, but don’t over burden yourself after greed. Freelancing has helped change the lives of many and will hopefully succeed in doing so in the future too.

How To Succeed As a Freelancer Without Even Trying

Guest post by Rachel Cook

Ah, the life of a freelancer! I jump out of bed each morning, alert and refreshed, no need for an alarm clock, my work-when-I-want schedule doesn't need such archaic devices. Then it's off to the gym where I spend a full twenty minutes striding like a majestic gazelle, without even breaking a sweat. Ha! If you believe any of this, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you in Brooklyn.

I still need an alarm. A week is hardly enough time to get to the bottom of my to-do list. Some days I consider it a success just to change into a different pair of pajamas! It's been a full two weeks since I've been able to paint my nails, my hands are too busy typing up useful information. And I wouldn't want it any other way. This is saying a lot, because I'm crazy about nail polish.

Write For Yourself, And Others

I credit elance for my hectic schedule, and in a lot of ways I credit Elance with the myriad of possibilities which have opened up to me as a result. I was able to find clients within the first few weeks of familiarizing myself with the service, which was good because I ran through all of my bids practically overnight. Since that time I've been able to pick up a few hints and tricks that I found helpful, in fact I seldom spend bids at all anymore and I'm booked solid with amazing clients.
  • Deadlines, schmedlines – Milestones are just a guesstimate of when you might expect to be finished should you waste several days fending off a zombie attack or something before you actually get down to work. Since those reports of face-eating zombies in Florida turned out to be a hoax you should have no problem finishing the job long before it's due. Clients really appreciate this as they often have deadlines as well and need time to double-check your work.
  • Finish all jobs before bidding on new ones – Getting yourself overextended is just going to lead to stress and the procrastination most commonly known as “writer's block.” Instead of wasting time wooing clients you don't yet have, focus on providing your current clients with quality work. This often leads to invitations to bid on other jobs, allowing you to build the schedule of your dreams.
  • Create a standard template – Spending time catering each and every proposal to the needs of the client leads to a lot of time wasted on your end, it's really okay to create a standard template that you use for your bids. Just make sure that you allow some wiggle-room within your template to demonstrate to your potential client that you really have read the job description in its entirety and understand what's being asked.
  • Give a sample, not a serving – Early on in my elance days I made the mistake of creating samples specifically written to the needs of the client. Not only did this waste a lot of my time, I was essentially completing the job free of charge. I did not win any clients with this method. However, when I showed examples of past work that fit the client's guidelines I achieved consistent success.
  • Keep working, always – Even if you're going through a slow week and you're free of any projects, keep working. Update your own site, submit work to other  sites, keep your name circulating on a daily basis. Not only will you improve your portfolio, but you'll also enjoy a wider range of material to provide as samples to future clients.
  • Touch base with past clients  – Once you've finished a project, contact the client and see if they have other work for you. This often leads to repeat business with reliable clients, and also generates positive word of mouth within the community. Other potential clients will see how much repeat business you've been awarded when they look at your feedback.

Slow and Steady Works For Turtles and People

I've been writing for years, it's a passion of mine, and I would do it even if I wasn't getting paid. One day I encouraged a friend of mine to try her hand at writing, and she in turn encouraged me to try elance. I was very methodical about the whole thing, taking one client at a time and working to ensure their total satisfaction. This has worked very well for me, as it's lead to tremendous success with very little effort on my part. In fact I think I had a more difficult time learning how to make a website and everybody knows that's a piece of cake.

Freelance writer Rachel Cook strives to make work appear effortless, something that's almost worthy of a line on her resume. Always one to practice what she preaches, she often draws upon personal experience from her own life adventures, and leads by example whenever possible. Based on this logic, topics that she will likely never write about include skydiving, joining the polar bear club, and planting a flag at the top of Mount Everest. Convinced that education is the secret to a long and happy life, Rachel often directs her friends to http://www.openwebsitetutorials.com with the instruction to learn something new each day.

The Cellphone - The Ultimate Distraction for Writers!

For every self-employed writer, maintaining concentration on a particular assignment can sometimes be a difficult process, especially when there are so many distractions that can get in the way. What started out as a highly productive day could soon become a completely wasted few hours if great care isn’t taken. The blare of TVs and radios in the background, for example, can soon take the individual’s mind away from the task in hand.

Of course, it’s easy to switch these gadgets off in order to acquire a little peace and to get on with the day’s work, but it’s not so easy to do that with a mobile phone. Many writers simply have to keep their cellphones switched on in order to remain in contact with clients or colleagues, and therein lies a problem. With the huge number of applications on the modern units, there are simply too many things to tempt the mind away from work.

In the days when a phone was simply used for making and receiving calls, it was an unobtrusive little item that rarely proved to be a distraction, but that’s all changed now. Many people, not just writers, find it difficult to get through an hour or two, let alone a whole day, without updating their Facebook statuses, for example, or without catching up with the latest opinions of friends and various celebrities on Twitter.

Stop playing and get writing!

And then there are the games as well. Should I work on this particular paragraph because it doesn’t sound quite right yet or should I see if I can guess what my brother has created on Draw Something? Do I have time to have another go on Words with Friends or should I finish this travel article I’ve been working on? We all know the sensible answer to these questions, of course, but are we all strong enough to make the right choice?

As well as interactive games, there’s also a wide range of informative and helpful apps just waiting to catch your attention. These can involve anything from creating special effects on photographs to viewing the latest bargain on auction websites. The days when the phone was just a tool for speaking are long gone now, and the chances are they will become even more distracting in the coming years.

Many writers (not all of us, I might add) are notoriously open to distraction, so it can be difficult to ever complete a full day’s work. My advice, even though it may create problems for the individual, is to switch the phone off for two or three hours at a time. Then you can switch it back on while you have a coffee break, and catch up with all the phone-related issues that you may have. Self-discipline is often a more important writing tool than a keyboard!

David Showell is a UK-based individual who spends far too much time on his cellphone. He does the occasional bit of work, of course, but he’s more proud of the car he recently created on Draw Something.

A decision to grow as a freelance blogger

Better late than never. After five long years of hibernation I feel liberated today. Today is a day of realisation. I have been struggling with myself for long while now. A struggle to know myself; a struggle to  rediscover my lost goals.

The year 2006 was a special one for me. I graduated in Masters of Computer Science. Also it was special because I was lucky enough to find a job immediately. I remember, our results were not out yet. In just a month after I finished my final semester exams I was absorbed as a lecturer. My students were just two years younger to me. Yes, I had already began giving lectures to under graduates in computer science. I was enjoying my work and slowly getting used to the new classrooms and lectures, was a student a month ago and now a lecturer.

The year 2007 brought in another turning point in my life. I found the love of my life, I got married. Then relocated to Bangalore. For all the obvious reasons I could not get back to work. Settled down happily for the role of homemaker. But, deep down some where I was unhappy of not doing anything worthwhile in life.

My life continued to be a dilemma.

The year 2009, I got the gift of my life. I gave birth to a wonderful baby boy. I started my new journey of life as a mother. This is such a wonderful phase of a woman's life. Motherhood has its own two faces to uncover to a new mother. I happened to see both the sides. The least I could do was thinking of what next?

The year 2010, I seriously started considering work from home options. This way I will be able to pursue my interests and also not have to stay away from my child. But what, was the next question.

It's now 2012, today is 8 April, and I have made my mind to choose the freelance writer as my career. This journey of writing all begun soon after my marriage. I discovered the concept called on-line diary or the blog. I started a blog on Rediff.com to kill the time. I slowly started gaining interest in writing.  I began to browse web randomly to know more about blogging. I came across bloggers who are were freelance writers. This was a topic I needed to explore. Meanwhile I started concentrating on improving my writting skills. I wanted to jump into the pool of freelancing only after preparation and research so that I don't drown.

Here is my first blog which I no more use- HaveSomeHoney. And my second blog is HaveYourShareOfHoney which I still peek into once in a while. I actually gave a second thought before including these links here. I was a hopeless writer then (I really feel so when I read those posts today). But then I know I have evolved steadily. I am sure I must show it to you guys. I still have to go a long way as far as producing a good content is concerned. But there is nothing going to stop me.

Defeat is not the worst of failures. Not to have tried is the true failure.

Now is the chance to make a career transition and I will for sure not let it slip out of my hands. I know I can make it and I will for sure give a try (and that only to succeed).
