How to use Twitter Vine app | Queen's Quill

The biggest tech releases last week was the video app by Twitter called Vine. Vine is an app that can be used to create gif like videos which are up to 6 seconds max. Twitter is known best for its versatility through restricted mode length of social media conversations. Twitter, the 140 characters micro-blog has done its best job again; app for creating and sharing videos which is restricted and as short as 6 seconds max. Though this app is available only for iPhone and iPod touch at the moment, the Twitter blog claims to bring this app soon to other platforms.

How to create Twitter Vine Video

On the Vine Blog, they said-
Posts on Vine are about abbreviation — the shortened form of something larger. They're little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life. They're quirky, and we think that's part of what makes them so special.
Just have a look on how these looped videos or the vines (as they are called) look like-

Just released last week and this app is all set to hit the "editor's pick" list on the Apple store where it is currently positioned at Top 13 on the list of apps.

To start making your looping scene on Vine, just follow these simple steps-

  1. Download the Twitter's Vine app from the app store (include link) on your iOS device (iPhone/iPod touch).
  2. Set your standard permissions like access to your location and push notifications. If you already have a Twitter account then you can directly sign in or if you do not have one then you can use your email address to sign in.
  3. Vine will create your profile using the information available on your Twitter account if you sign in with Twitter but you do have a choice to edit the information before sign up.
  4. You are greeted by a landing page once you finish off sign up. Very much similar to Instagram, this landing page has the editor's choice Vines till you start following people.
  5. To start creating your first Vine, head to the camera button on the top right of the home page and click it. You will be getting a separate page with camera view, along with a status bar on top.
  6. Hold your finger on the screen as long as you want the video to be recorded. You will get a green line on status bar as an indication to know the time left to finish your 6 second video record or the vine. Remove your finger and you have your first vine recorded.
  7. You will get a preview and you can choose to either continue or delete the vine.
  8. You have the option to share your vine on Twitter, Facebook and on the Vine itself.
The options for keeping your vines private is not very great at the moment but the company has plans to include more preferences for the visibility in future. The only way you can keep your vine secret without sharing is via Camera Roll. If you choose not to share your vine then simply uncheck "Share on Vine" and click Done. With your permission, the video will be saved to Camera Roll.

Did you install the free Vine app? How was your experience creating your first video on Twitter's Vine?

New Google Plus Communities- Step by step guide to create your community

Google plus communities- What does this mean?

Setting up G+ communities

The tag line on the official Google+ site under communities says-
“Talk about the stuff you’re into with people who love it too”.
Sounds interesting!

Let's take a look at the features first:

  1. You have a choice to make your group private so you could engage your family and friends with your private affairs. Or, make your group open to public so you could attract people of same interests and do some great business. You can either choose to restrict people to join with permission or just allow them to join anyway.
  2. No matter what you are interested in, you will always find one or more communities to chill. Join the communities which share information of your interest and indulge yourself in discussions and learn new things you always wanted to. Also get free tips, tricks and tutorials to get the right solutions for your problems from the fellow members of the group.
  3. Do not hesitate to share some love on G+ communities! If you find any photos, videos, articles or stuff that you think the community would enjoy or be benefited then please do with the help of share or +1 button on sites and pages.
  4. One of the most important and useful feature that is unique to Google Plus is Hangout. Apart from engaging your prospects and customers for business through discussions in feeds you can actually host scheduled hangout so you could build face-to-face relation. I haven’t seen such an awesome feature on any other social platforms, have you?

Setting up your Google Plus community is so easy that you will start feeling  the toughest part of it is to come up with a name to your community :)

  • Before you begin, decide the name for your community which defines the purpose and interests making it stand out from other communities.
  • Draft your tag line that is catchy and conveys the message of your community to every new visitor.
  • Pick a photo that defines your community which also clearly brings your brand out to public. Make it in-line with your logo while it also relates to the name and purpose of your community. The size of the image would ideally be 200-pixel wide by 250-pixel tall.
  • Now begin with the actual set up...
1) Sign In to your Google Plus profile (assuming you have one).
2) Click on Communities tab on the left hand side.

3) Then find the Create A Community tab towards right and click it.

4) Now in the pop window choose your preference wisely whether you want your community to be public or private. Your setting is permanent and you are not allowed to change your privacy later.

5) Name your community and set your preference if you want people to request permission to join or not. Then hit create community.

6) Upload a photo, write the tag line, complete your about section (mainly about community and may be a line about you) and add discussion topic. Click Done Editing button.

7) You are done with creating your first community on google+.
8) Go ahead and invite people to join the community and spread a word in your g+ profile about this new community.

Is this new concept of communities similar to “Groups on LinkedIn”? How do you think G+ communities are different from LinkedIn groups?

Sahil Lavingia, CEO of Gumroad raised $7 Million

Young achiever- Sahil Lavingia who raised $7 Million for his startup GUMROAD

iPhone apps designer at 14, a drop out from USC to join Pinterest design group which is in the third position on the race of social sites after facebook and twitter; a founder/CEO of startup Gumroad, a now 19 year old teenager is what Sahil Lavingia can be described as.

Sahil Lavingia in an interview says it all began in his middle school when all the students were given free license to Photoshop. Don't you think it was like having a million dollar product in his pockets for free and he could least be away from messing with it!

Sahil says- I googled Photoshop tutorials and made really weird things for fun and kind of got hooked. I started designing websites because that's where the money was.

A good licensed software landed in the hands of 11 or 12 year old boy who took all the liberty to use it on computer. But the best part is he knew what he was doing with it and how much to do it.

Sahil says- When I was 14 and I was like, "I'm tired of this, I want to build my own products."

This was the idea of a mere 14 year old boy, rather a 14 year old kid (no kidding mind you!).

Thanks to the age of computer technology and the era of internet. Most importantly thanks to Steve Jobs and his mighty innovation of touch screen gadgets.

Sahil says- But then the iPhone came out and I learned that stuff really fast. I learned iPhone development in 2 weeks. I downloaded Stanford videos and those became my whole life. So I learned iOS development when I was 16.

I was financially independent when I was 15. I never really tell anyone that because it doesn't feel relevant, but looking back I think, Oh, starting a company might have actually made sense. I have been doing okay for a while. My bank account when I was 15 or 16 was over $100,000.

Now this is something. Earning money by an entrepreneur so young with such great ides for applications on a sophisticated gadget such as iPhone is a huge achievement. Today's kids are raised with the exposure to touch screen gadgets and social networking sites. Some of them grow smart enough to know what they want from life and all by the age of twelve to sixteen. Just like Sahil Lavingia, kids at 14 make up their minds to take risk (drop out of college or give up a job) and dream big. The beauty is that they succeed and live their dream; accomplish their aspirations; grow up earlier in life financially.

Lavingia got $1.1 Million funding earlier and he has now earned (!) $7 Million funding on Monday 7 May 2012 said the source. What better could have happened for this 19 year old teen-techie?

Gumroad is well on it's way to achieve new heights. It aims to help people make money as less as $1 or as big as you can imagine! If you have a twitter account or a facebook account and believes in what you create to sell, then do login to Gumroad and earn money the easy way!

Isn't this irony? We talk on kids getting addicted to technology, internet and gadgets at very young age, but if it is taken care of how and why they are using these tools, then sky is the limit on wonders kids can do! What do you think?
