Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna is a truth nobody has ever escaped from. There are people in this world who condemn good work and there are also people who support unreasonable work.
I am a huge fan of Amir Khan (@Aamir_Khan). I have grown up watching him as a young and cute teenage boy. I admired him as a child, I had a crush on him as a teenager and I respect him now as his fan. I am writing this post as a social being and not biased of being Aamir's fan.

Sipping morning tea at 8:30am is possible only on lazy Sundays and today is one of those days. But one thing I was waiting today was the first episode of new show 'Satyamev Jayate' on star plus hosted by the Bollywood actor Aamir Khan. As the name and promos suggested it was obvious that the show was about society and social causes.

The opening episode was started by a short message by Aamir Khan about the mission of the program 'Satyamev Jayate' (@smjindia). Then the episode was started by talking about Mother. It was continued by introducing three mothers of girl children and their heart wrenching stories. The issue that was addressed today was the female foeticide; the involvement of life saving doctors in this heinous crime of illegal abortion; the sting operations and the cases that are running in court even after seven years; the after effects of female foeticide in the society, the imbalance in the male:female ratio; the well researched statistics about the problem was a eye opener. Then the program was ended by a thought provoking and touching song.

Thus with the end of the episode begun the process of analysis by public and celebrities alike. The platform for the debate about the program was twitter. In no time the twitter was flooded with tweets analyzing the show. The yeses and the nos, the ifs and the buts, the likes and the dislikes, the positive and the negative views and comments.

A few tweets are about Aamir charging 3 crores for a single episode. A few were about the need to raise the TRPs of the channel, the revenue earned by the channel and the money made by Aamir because he is also the co-producer of the show. Some other tweets are worrying about the concept of the show because there are already a few similar shows on other channels. There were also tweets saying, the problem was already known earlier and there is nothing new in the first episode.

If he only had to choose money, he would have chosen to do any other worthless shows on television but he picked the one that is based on problems faced by the society. He might be doing this for money(?) but he is not ready to do anything just to earn money. And why are you worrying about the money earned by the actor and the channel, please put your energy on worrying about lending your hand for the issue raised. If the problem was known earlier why have you failed to address it? Why are you neglecting the fact that Aamir is writing a letter to CM of Rajasthan, there is money being raised for the help of the needy, atleast a few mindsets will be changed and a few will contribute in creating awareness.

Have we ever asked these questions-?
  • Why another Saas-Bahu serial when there are already 4 to 5 of them on every other channel?
  • Why another news channel when there are so many of them in every other language?
  • Why another game show or reality show when they are just killing our time and creativity?
  • What good are these money making reality shows doing?
  • What are shows like roadies, splitsvilla or katharoke khiladi teaching?
I even read a blog post about the show that was aired in just an hour after the program. It says Aamir was more fun and happening in his young age. His films QSQT and DIL were more natural. The author says, he/she started dis-liking him gradually because he grew to be a serious human being and a workaholic. He makes movies with missions that are no more fun to watch.

What? A man is growing with age and maturing with experience and trying to give back to society in some form and you say you dislike him for this? Any way it's your view point. He has made movies like Taare Zameen pe, which tries to convey a message to the parents and society; it talks about education system and the pressure on the children, about the childhood and the needs of kids and dyslexia. Movie like Three idiots is fun as well as discusses the right way of educating ourselves and the meaning of degree and life. The movies he makes speaks for himself.

Aamir Khan is a celebrity who has a huge fan following and he is a brand in himself. His image has a great ability to change the way people see at things. He has the capacity to change the mind-set of people. Through this show he is trying to convey a message, a message to give back a little to this society we live in. Millions of people may not agree but at-least a few thousands or even a few hundreds will do there bit. The fund might not reach the expected goal but at-least will be able to collect something to help the needy.

What if the channel is earning some revenue? What if the actor is making some money? What if the advertisers are making some business?

They are at-least doing something for the society even if it means they expect some returns. We the so called good people are sitting in our living rooms and become couch potatoes when it comes to addressing issues that does not harm us directly. We do not even bother to see outside the windows of our drawing rooms leave alone doing something for the society. If you cannot help the ones who are helping others then the best way you can help them is do not condemn just leave them alone.

We think we tweet and our part is done and we are big social workers? Everybody do something and expect some or the other returns, but that does not mean they don't care. We tweet because we want followers and retweets. But tweeting something needy and good has its own importance. We blog to spread the word but expect readers and traffic in-return. But that does not reduce the importance of bringing awareness through a writeup.

It's rightly said: Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. If you are an optimist you see half glass full and if you are a pessimist then you see half glass empty. If you are realistic you see half full and half empty glass.
